The Palomar Knot is recommended for tying hooks, swivels and lures to any line – braided, monofilament, and fusion. This knot is my favorite and I used it regularly now. It doesn’t look as pretty as the basic Fisherman’s Knot, but it does the job. The nice thing about this knot is that you can tie it in the dark once you know how to tie it. The downside of this knot is that you must pass the lure, fly or hook through the loop which can be awkward; however with practice, this hasn’t been a problem for me. Just watch out that you don’t hook yourself when first using this knot. Uses: The Palomar Knot is a simple knot for attaching a line to a hook, or a fly to a leader or tippet. It is regarded as strong and reliable. Tying it: After the loop is passed through the eye, an overhand knot is tied with the loop. The loop is then passed over the hook and the knot is tightened down. Advantages: With a little practice the Palomar is a knot which can be tied in the dark. Disadvantages: The fly or hook must pass through the loop which can be awkward and depends on making the loop large enough.
